The photo above shows the faces of the four men accused of heartlessly stabbing a Mozambican man named Emmanuel Sithole to death on Saturday April 18th for being a foreigner in South Africa. The men appeared in court today after they were arrested by the South African police for the murder of the innocent man. They were later remanded in prison after leaving the court. Their photos were released online by the South African Police through Twitter.

In the photo above, the South African police of dragging a man alleged to be one of the touts that stabbed Sithole to death for being a non South African and living there. At the time the photo was released, the police said about three of the men have been arrested and that there was a manhunt for a fourth.

“The suspects were arrested in Alexandra (on Sunday evening) with help from the members of the community. Several exhibits that may be used as evidence were seized during the arrests,” Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

It was a shameful day in South Africa when the innocent man was murder in cold blood and people stood by. The Mozambican man was cornered and stabbed in the heart and left to die. The incident took place on Saturday the 18th of April on the streets of Alexandra in Johannesburg. The man died of the stab wounds and was pronounced dead in the hospital. See more photos of the attack below and how it was reported by Beauregard Tromp and James Oatway, the South African Times Live journalists that witnessed it.

Shortly before 7am yesterday April 18th, Sunday Times journalists were in Alexandra township, near Sandton, speaking to shop owners who had their businesses looted overnight. Children played, people walked the streets, some stopped to gawk at the carnage from the night before. Then this happened …

In a gutter in Alexandra a Mozambican man stopped and lay down. The gash to his chest meant he could go no further.

At the day clinic less than 100m away they could not help him. The doctor scheduled to be on duty did not show up because he was a foreigner and feared being a victim of xenophobia.
It began on Friday night when mobs blockaded Arkwright Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares in Alexandra, with rubble and burning tyres. Foreign-owned shops’ roofs were ripped open and metal gates torn away as looters went on the rampage.

Outside one spaza shop, a man in a black corduroy jacket and red shirt was walking along the road.
Suddenly a young man dressed in a grey tracksuit jacket beat him over the head with a wrench. The red-shirt man tried to fend off the blows, his arms raised. He stumbled back, falling into rubbish strewn by the roadside. The blows with the wrench rained down. Then the bludgeoning stopped and the man with the wrench moved away.

“Are we safe here?” asked a South African woman watching the attack.
The man in the red shirt got up. Now another man with a beige spottie approached, holding an okapi knife high above his head. Again, the man in the red shirt raised his hands, pleading for mercy. But his pleas were in vain. He was stabbed … again and again.

The two grappled and fell to the floor. The man with the wrench returned. Finally, a lanky young man sprinted towards the man among the rubbish, kicking him in the head. The young man pulled a butcher’s knife. A man in a black leather jacket who had discouraged the attack grabbed the wrist with the butcher’s knife. The attackers fled.

The red-shirt man tried to get up but fell. Finally he made it to his feet. Feebly, he walked up the road.
Do you know why they attacked you? Who are you? Where are you from, we asked him.
He turned his head towards the questions fired at him, his face pleading. He said nothing. His shirt was drenched, a 2cm gash in his chest. Metres further he stumbled and lay down in the gutter. He struggled to sit up and fell down.

“Help me get him into the car. Help me, please,” said photographer James Oatway, looking around at the men gathered around him. One stepped forward, reluctantly.
Up the road, at Alexandra Day Clinic, nurses did what they could. There was no doctor; he would have to be taken to Edenvale Hospital.

Along the way the man was flailing wildly, sitting up, lying down, wincing with pain. The wound to his chest was gushing now.

At Edenvale Hospital a lone gurney stood at the entrance. The porters sat in a room with tinted windows. Oatway pleaded for help. The man in the car was critical, he said.

Slowly one porter rose and scribbled in a book. Then the other, both now ambling towards the hospital entrance. Inside the car the red-shirt man looked lifeless.

“He’s dead. We can’t take him,” one porter pronounced.
There was no pulse. Then a gag reflex. He’s alive.

Inside the ICU, doctors compressed his chest, massaging his heart. After nearly seven minutes a ventilator was used. Shortly after 9am Emmanuel Sithole was pronounced dead. He was Mozambican. The stab wound to his chest had penetrated his heart.

In his pockets, R285 and 10c in change and a cellphone. His phone would ensure he did not die nameless. On his wrist, three armbands read: “United for Bafana.”

Ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo is reported to have had a private meeting with Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB. According to the reports, the meeting between the two men took place in Buguma Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State recently. The reason both men met  was not disclosed.

In the last few weeks, the Nigerian army has intensified the impact of its war against Boko Haram, in a bid to eradicate or reduce the militant group that have kidnapped hundreds and killed thousands as it continues its war on Nigeria and its citizens.

To show how the Nigerian Military men have been fighting the terrorist group, Kaj Larsen, a journalist with VICE News went on the front-line with the Nigerian soldiers and filmed them in battle with the enemy. As part of the three part documentary, he also interviewed some of the locals.

Larsen’s video is the first of its kind to bring the Boko Haram insurgency into life. Since the group began terrorising Africa’s most populous country, no journalist, even those from Nigeria – have dared to join the military on the frontline to tell the story as it is.

Nigerian Tribune-general-buhariA large number of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) since General Muhammadu Buhari was declared the winner of the recently conducted Nigerian presidential elections about two weeks ago.

Addressing newsmen after casting his vote at his local polling unit in Daura, Katsina State yesterday April 11th, the Nigerian Tribune reported President-elect – General Muhammadu Buhari said defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party should not expect him to give them automatic appointment as ministers in his government.  Buhari also used the opportunity to inform the defectors that they’re joining a team of winners.

“I have no fears of PDP defectors. The people who are defecting will only have influence in their constituencies. Since their constituencies are now controlled by the APC, their influence is, therefore, limited. I hope the people that are defecting will accept the fact that they are joining the people who succeeded. So, I don’t think they will just come and say they want to be ministers next month, simply because they were ministers before,” he said

1-Ever wished to take a nap on 3rd Mainland Bridge? This man did

As a mega-city with an estimated 15 million residents resulting to loud noise, and go-slows from huge traffic, Lagos is not the city one would expect to take a nap on the road – especially the 3rd mainland bridge and not get crushed or cursed out by the road users.

But on Saturday April 11th, Lagos stood still and gave CNN correspondent, Christian Purefoy the chance to take a snooze on the ever busy Lagos third Mainland Bridge. The reporter posted a photo of his little adventure online and wrote: “Lagos. Mega-City. 15m people. Noise. Go-Slows. But once, every 4 years, you can take a snooze on 3rd Mainland Bridge.”

On Saturday April 11th, the day Purefoy had his little adventure, Nigeria was conducting its election at the state level. And it was two weeks after the presidential election was conducted and won by General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Alliance (APC) and unseating the incumbent – President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But on a second look, it maybe there is fire and their marriage is tearing apart. If one takes Lola’s message seriously and try to analyse it, it may look like they’re having problems because Peter is cheating on him.

And from Peter’s message, it looks like the couple have decided it’s not working and he’s just trying to say he’s now single and searching.

We hope nothing serious is really going on and if there is, we hope they will be able to settle it quickly. Wishing them luck.
